Missing Tom again . . .

Tom is back in California filming again. It was great having him home for a while, but it really makes it harder having him go again. He will be finished filming by the second week of August. I am so excited for him. It really is a great adventure. But it is hard not having him home. The girls have made "Dad Pillows" with our big pillows dressed up in Tom's PJs and cologne. They both carry them around at night. They are pretty sweet and silly. It is funny, Sophie normally refuses to say prayers at night, she always asks for someone else to say them for her -- But when Tom is out of town, she is the first one to say her prayers. The subject is always the same and always about keeping her dad safe and to bring him home soon. I asked her what about praying about me? she said "Nope - you are home and can say one for yourself"

Sophie is really a character, she is so different than Emma. Emma is very sensitive and tender. Sophie is more WYSIWYG = Pronounced Wissywig (it is a computer acronym for "What you see is what you get")

Tom calls Sophie his "dirt fairy" and she is usually proud of it, but a couple months ago she came in from the backyard and told Tom that she is NOT a fairy not even a dirt one, she is a buffalo! When Tom asked her why she explained to him: "Dad, faires can fly and I have been jumping off the deck all day and I just keep falling on my knees, I can't fly so I have to be a buffalo!"

Sophie got her hearing aids!!

Sophie's hearing aids are here. She is really excited. We ordered the blue ones, but there was a mix up, so she has red ones until the new blue ones come in.
She has the Sonic Ion 200 BTE (Behind the Ear) hearing aids.

Tom and Sophie's audiologist is Dr. Alan Young with Hearing Zone.
Testing and fitting a 4 year is obviously a challenge and he is great and always patient with Sophie. He is the only audiolgist that we have worked with that recognized that a 4 year old could be able to lipread (aka speechread). He truly understands the unique needs of patients with RSHL.

Sophie has he father's family hereditary Reverse Slope Hearing loss.
Her loss starts at a 60dB loss and gets as bad as 80dB loss in the 500hz to 2000hz range. She has perfect hearing - 0dB loss - above 7000hz.

If you would like more information about this kind of rare hearing loss:
The Bizarre World of Extreme Reverse-Slope Hearing Loss

After her first day with hearing aids - she is not so sure that she likes all this new noise - but she loves hearing the Jonas Brothers and Jack Johnson better!

Red White and Blue Summer

Emma had the HAST Red White and Blue Long Course swim meet on July 3rd and July 5th.
Sophie ran in the Murray 4th of July Kids race and Tom, AJ and Alled ran in the Murray 4th of July 5K. This is the first Murray 5K I have missed in 5 years! I was pretty depressed. But I promise I will be running in it next year! Sophie is the fastest runner in the family (well maybe AJ is, but he has the unfair advantage of long legs!)
Look at Sophie- she doesn't run as much as leaps. Both feet are off the ground.

From July2008

Emma did AWESOME in her swim meet. She swam in 6 events and placed in the top 6 for five of the events.

MLS Soccer Camps

Emma got to go to two weeks of soccer camps this summer. One week with Sophie and and another week with one of her best friends Kaylee Steed
Kaylee and Emma with their soccer coach

The best part was that our family got to host an MLS Soccer coach for one of the weeks. It was a lot of fun and Jon was fun to have as part of our family.
We took Jon up to Park City to ride the Alpine Slide and Zip Line - We all had a lot of fun.

It took awhile but Sophie started to enjoy herself at camp (on the last day of course!)

Jon took us to a Real Salt Lake Game, the girls got to got to go on the field when the team came out -
